#5 Best New Affordable Public Golf Course in the United States in 2006 (Golf Digest Magazine)

Highland Meadows Golf Course, located in Windsor, Colorado opened in 2005 to rave reviews. In 2006 it was voted the #5 Best New Affordable Public Golf Course in the United States by Golf Digest Magazine. The golf course serves as the centerpiece for a large master planned residential community. Art created a softer golf/development interface by providing wider golfing corridors and then grouping holes together. This gave the golfers more room to play golf and minimized instances where golf holes were located between homes on both sides. The added width to the golf corridors allowed him to incorporate his dynamic risk/reward design style into the holes, resulting in a very strategic, interesting and enjoyable golfing experience. The majority of the existing site was a blank canvas with very subtle topography and only one tree on the entire property, but the eastern boundary of the site had a very dramatic, natural 30-foot deep arroyo that was integrated into the strategy and setting of seven of the golf holes. After opening with a strong splash in the market, Highland Meadows has continued to be a leader in it’s market and it is considered one of the top public golf courses in Northern Colorado.
