The Club at Old Hawthorne

Private

Columbia, MO

2007

The Club at Old Hawthorne is a private country club in Columbia, Missouri that opened for play in 2007. The golf course is the centerpiece of a 642-acre master planned community. The golf course was designed to serve the membership of the club as well as being the home course for the University of Missouri men’s and women’s NCAA division I golf teams. Besides hosting annual men’s and women’s collegiate tournaments the course has also hosted the annual Missouri State Open Pro-Am Championship. The design of the golf course takes advantage of nearly ideal topography and interesting natural features to minimize the impact of adjacent housing on the golfer’s experience while still creating outstanding value for the developer and homeowners. The holes are designed with maximum scale and width, providing players with great variety in terms of options of play both off the tee and from the fairway with their approach shots to the greens. Art focused on having a minimal construction impact to the site with his design, incorporating as much of the beautiful natural terrain and existing site features into the design of the holes as possible. The result was a golf course with holes that are considered by many to be completely unique to this course, combining site-specific features with interesting risk/reward options of play and which have become the pride of the membership.
