Westwood Country Club

St. Louis

2019

A complete bunker renovation was done in late 2018 and early 2019, with the course re-opened in late April 2019. This was a main part of the first project for the club after working closely with the club’s Grounds and Greens Committee throughout 2017 to develop a Long-Term Maintenance Plan. The plan focused on adding some forward tees, repairing severe creek bank erosion on hole 8, re-building the 8th green and renovating all of the course’s bunkers. The key objective with the bunkers was to address and reduce the intense maintenance effort required on the bunkers after every rainfall. Additionally, the bunkers were all evaluated for strategic value and how they affected playability for all members. Adding the Better Billy Bunker liner, changing the sand to Pro-Angle and redesigning each bunker to ensure no drainage impacts and a more aesthetically pleasing look addressed the issues. Some bunkers were removed and some new ones were added to improve strategic value and playability, with the net result being a reduction in the number of bunkers on the course.
